Their place has a new bright look. The staff are always nice and accommodating. Try their Shakedon (salmon sashimi on rice)-- very fresh with thick slices. I like their Al fresco dining area.

Stepping into the restaurant, a sense of anticipation hung in the air, a gentle hum of conversation and the subtle clinking of tableware creating a relaxed yet refined atmosphere. We settled into our seats, eager to embark on the Japanese gastronomic journey that awaited. We started with the tempura, a quintessential element of any Japanese meal. While the presentation was pleasing, the assortment of lightly battered and fried vegetables and shrimp, while undeniably fresh, didn't quite reach the heights of exceptional. The batter, though crisp, lacked a certain delicate airiness that can elevate tempura from standard fare to a truly memorable experience. It was, as described, the usual – a perfectly acceptable but not particularly groundbreaking start to our meal. Moving on, the udon presented a welcome shift in flavor profile. The thick, chewy wheat noodles were bathed in a deeply savory broth, its umami richness coating the palate with each satisfying slurp. The subtle interplay of soy sauce, dashi, and perhaps a hint of mirin created a comforting warmth that resonated on a cool evening. Accompanying the noodles were tender pieces of meat and delicate slivers of vegetables, all harmonizing beautifully within the flavorful embrace of the broth. This dish was a definite highlight, a testament to the simple yet profound satisfaction that a well-executed bowl of udon can deliver. However, the true star of our Omakase ATC dining experience, the dish that truly captured our attention and left a lasting impression, was undoubtedly the BDR Boat Maki. This impressive platter arrived at our table, a vibrant and artfully arranged collection of 24 pieces, a testament to the chef's skill and creativity. The acronym "BDR" cleverly encapsulated the trio of maki rolls it comprised: the classic Boston Roll, the ever-popular Dynamite Roll, and the visually striking Rising Sun Roll. The Boston Roll, with its delicate combination of cooked shrimp, avocado, and cucumber, offered a refreshing and subtly sweet counterpoint to the richer flavors that followed. Its clean and simple profile provided a familiar and comforting foundation. Next, the Dynamite Roll lived up to its name, delivering a burst of flavor and a hint of spice. The combination of tempura shrimp, avocado, spicy mayonnaise, and often tobiko or masago created a textural and taste sensation that was both exciting and deeply satisfying. Each bite offered a delightful crunch and a lingering warmth. Finally, the Rising Sun Roll, often characterized by its vibrant presentation and unique flavor combinations, added an element of artistry to the boat. The prices are very competitive and portions are good to share. Just don't order tempura if you don't like the gelatinous texture of premade tempura. Salmon sashimi is fresh. If it's your bday, you get a birthday song with ice cream, not bad.
